Time seemed to come to a screeching halt as Bella watched in a horrified daze as Lauren received a flogging from her very own Lord Pettifor. She had done her best to prepare herself for this night, but still her mind was reeling at seeing his hands on another woman. Over and over she repeated to herself that he was merely performing a task, but the look on his face said something different. His deep green eyes were so unbelievably magnificent as his large hands roamed over Laurenâs dark, flawless skin as he eased all the raw areas he had just struck. Leaning down, his tongue skimmed one of Laurenâs pebbled nipples and Bellaâs dinner threatened to spill out for everyone to see. The emotion was easily readable on his face and it was clear to see that he was enjoying this as much as Lauren was.
And could she blame them?
When Xander took the pretty female into his arms and began to whisper sweet things into her ear, Bellaâs eyes filled with tears. She knew well the words spoken⦠Youâre such a good girl, Princessâ¦she could almost hear him saying to her. You took your punishment well. I love youâ¦
Staring at her twisted hands, it took every bit of courage not to go running from the room.
âEyes forward, Ms. Darcy,â she heard from behind the table. Defiantly, she resisted. Dalberg couldnât make her watch her fiancé. He couldnât. Closing her eyes tighter, she fisted her hands, digging her nails into her palms. A touch on her arm tried to urge her, but she held her ground.
âBella, do as he says,â she heard Julianna say softly.
âItâs not your job to make Ms. Darcy do as sheâs told, Ms. Breslin,â Dalberg growled, startling Ju and making her jump in her seat.
She felt even worse. Now she had gotten Ju into trouble. Without moving, she could feel everyoneâs eyes on her â even Xanderâs.
âDonât make him say it again, Ms. Darcy,â she heard in an even, firm tone that rang all too familiar.
Her very own Lord was commanding her to look at him and she had no choice but to obey. Lifting her head, her eyes met Xanderâs. Lauren was still cradled in his arms and shaking, but his stern gaze was fixed on her as he slowly rocked back and forth.
âIâm sorry, Sir,â she stated nearly inaudibly.
âHeâs not the only one you need to apologize to.â The voice behind her took her by surprise. Lord Hutchens had stealthily snuck up on her and his hot breath on her neck sent shivers down her spine. âStand and apologize to the entire class for your selfish behavior. Then apologize to Lord Dalberg for not following his command.â
Rising to her feet, her knees nearly buckled. Scanning the room and making contact with each and every student, she swallowed her pride and did as she was told.
Straightening up, she licked her dry lips tensely and spoke. âIâm deeply sorry for my selfish behavior.â Next she met Dalbergâs condescending glare.
